CoSET Launches Training Series on the Risk Framework for #DeafSafeAI
The Risk Framework for #DeafSafeAI automatic interpreting is supported by theory and professional experience.
Formally announced at the SLxAI Summit hosted by Boston University's Wheelock Center for Education and Human Development on April 16, 2026, the #DeafSafeAI evaluation framework addresses concerns identified two years ago at the original first Symposium on AI and Sign Language Interpreting (Brown University, April 20-21, 2024).
This #DeafSafeAI evaluation framework incorporates considerations across all interpreting contexts (signed languages, spoken languages, and other specialized communication modalities). In some important regards this framework is an outcome of collaboration between the Coalition for Sign Language Equity in Technology (CoSET) and Stakeholders Advocating for Fairness and Ethics in interpreting (known as the SAFE AI Task Force). It's first mention is in the AI Interpreting Solutions Evaluation Toolkit Part A: Organization, Implementation, and Management by CoSET and the SAFE AI Task Force.
A press release was published by Multilingual Magazine on April 14, 2026, "CoSET SAFE AI Task Force Proposes a Risk Framework for Automated Interpreting at SLxAI Summit."
